Friday Dinner

As I've previously stated, my cousin is a Vegan, and since we live together her food values tend to rub off on me sometimes. So, in an effort to cook as a family, my Grandpa Paul has decided to help us cook any vegetarian or vegan meals we want, as long as we provide him with a recipe. So, on tonight's menu, we have a Mushroom risotto and vegetable skewers. Mmmm...    This is Paul, asking me, "How'd you miss that soup in the fridge? You never miss anything in the fridge!" And the process begins... I would've taken a picture of the finished project, but I was too hungry to even do that. It was delicious! =) As you can see, Paul had to add some meat in there somewhere (chicken sausages and fillets on the kabobs). I'm grateful for having the opportunity to live with my family again and have delicious Paul-cooked meals. Who knows how long life will be like this before things change again... I'm trying to be cognizant o

The Happiness Advantage

This is an awesome video about how to change our thinking to not only become happier, but to be more successful. What else can you ask for in life? I want to train my brain! All I have to do is practice these five things for 21 days straight. No doubt this is harder than it seems. Exercising for 21 days straight is a challenge! But, in an effort to improve my life, I feel that nothing is too big of a challenge. Most of these tasks are simple and will only take a few moments. Look, I'm accomplishing one right now by journaling about this positive experience I've had today by discovering this video.... 1. Writing three new things that I am grateful for each day. 3. Journaling about one positive experience in order to re-live it. 3. Exercise. 4. Meditation, to better focus. 5. Random acts of kindness.

"Giving Things Up Competition"... aka Lent.

In the spirit of Lent and having to "give things up" I'd like to share the following video my manager showed me. If you have the extra 20 minutes, it's pretty funny. Anyway, it's the season of Lent and many people have joined in on the "Giving things up competition." Do people really strive to make true sacrifices for the 40 days? Or, do people only tend to give up things they find easy to live without. How many people will try giving up cigarettes? What I really want to talk about is cigarettes, anyway.... Cigarettes are a true addiction. I am surrounded by smokers and non-smokers, and I really had to delve into this subject when I felt that I, myself, had become a smoker. Top 5 Regrets of the Dying

I would like to turn your attention to an article/blog I recently read entitled "Top 5 Regrets of the Dying." It was written by a woman named Bonnie Ware who, through her time working with dying patients, found recurring themes surface in their dying days. Here are the top five listed below: 1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. 2. I wish I didn't work so hard. 3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings. 4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends. 5. "The other side of the cube..."

So, today at work I get to sit and visit with my fellow co-workers on the "other side of the cubicle." These guys get to sit together, in low-walled cubes, allowing them to have free-flowing conversation (unlike my cubicle that has high walls and forces me to sit with... me). The topic of discussion started off with Bison... eating bison specifically. John, one of the CSEs here, explained that he went to his local, health-food supermarket called Sprouts, located in Sunnyvale, CA. Choosing from the various types of meat, he decided upon a lean cut of non hormone-treated Bison. He also explained that his fiance is adamant about choosing meat that is semi-humanely treated.... So, what does that mean? It's been a question that's been on my mind for quite some time now as my Cousin, whom I live with, has recently become a Vegan. She brings to my attention various health and moral reasons for turning away from animal products, but the suggestions normally stay just that

My first blog, my first post.

This is my first attempt at creating a blog. My manager (who is totally awesome, btw) has encouraged me to do quite a few things in the past few months that we have been working together, and this is one of them. I think it might be a nice way for me to express and share things that are on my mind and are literally nagging at me for a way to express themselves through some form other than circling around and around and around inside my head.
